Mugshot companies take advantage of public records law to embarrass individuals arrested for alleged crimes while they are presumed innocent. They then often attempt to profit from removal after an acquittal or dismissal requiring a fee to have it removed. This is an unlawful trade practice in Oregon.
Since 2014, Oregon law on mugshots has required these corrupt mugshot website operators (that charge fees for removal) in Eugene, Medford, Roseburg, and other Oregon cities to remove the mugshots for free following acquittal or violation, or following expungement.
For mugshot websites to fail to do this for fee constitutes Unfair Trade Practices and civil damages. Unfortunately, many of these companies operate offshore.
